Announcing Taschen’s New Shop… in Springfield
Tuesday, December 11th, 2012
You can't say Taschen doesn't have a sense of humor. We felt a rush of anticipation when the über-cool art book publisher sent out a press release announcing a new store... but in Springfield? Turns out, Taschen got its propers from The Simpsons in its latest episode when the local comic book shop is turned into a Taschen store by Portland transplants looking to make Springfield more hipster-friendly. Who better than Taschen? There's a little bit of life imitating art here, too: Founder Benedikt Taschen got his start in publishing at age 18 when he opened a comic book store in his hometown of Cologne.
From Taschen:
On the latest episode of The Simpsons, “The Day The Earth Stood Cool” a shiny new TASCHEN store opens in the Simpsons’ hometown of Springfield. The premise of the episode is that Homer wants a younger, hipper image so he starts hanging out with his “cool” new neighbors from Portland, Oregon. The “cool” Portlandians have a vision of turning Springfield into a hipster paradise where the Quickie Mart turns into a Whole Foods, the tire factory turns into an American Apparel, and the comic book shop turns into—what else?—a TASCHEN Store!
