Audi R18 Ultra Chair - Design Bureau

Audi R18 Ultra Chair

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

Designers Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram are publicly beta-testing the R18 ULTRA CHAIR, designed in collaboration with Audi’s Lightweight Design Centre using methods borrowed from the namesake Le Mans race cars. The chair consists of a carbon composite seat, a carbon-rubber composite back rest and aluminium alloy legs. It's strong and light and the legs can be compacted and transported in a lightweight flat-pack box. The designers are using advanced industrial sensors on the chair to gather data from the public and make adjustments for the construction of the final version. Right now, the public can check it out and presumably sit in it and provide some data during the public installation in the courtyard of the 18th Century Palazzo Clerici, Milan from April 17 to 22, 2012 during the 51st Salone Internazionale del Mobile
