AVEC by Praline & RSHP

The new typeface AVEC is the result of a collaboration between graphic design firm Praline and architecture firm RSHP Model Shop. The two companies met while working together on the Richard Rogers + Architects exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in 2007. Though they specialize in two different fields, they share a similar goal: to create designs that communicate on many levels. It's with this common vision that they set out to create an architectural model based on the word "avec" — meaning "with" in French.
The project evolved from architectural floor plates to font, from font to model, from model to 3D letters, to photographs, to text and a neon sign. Finally, an actual font called AVEC was created and exists in three weights: Floorplay, Mezzanine and Facade. All the preceding stages were installed as an exhibition at the A Foundation in London in January 2010.
