Top 20 from Salone Del Mobile 2014, Part 1

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

No defense necessary. Salone del Mobile reigns supreme, confirming it’s not just the biggest furniture fair in the world, but the leader in showcasing inspiring and innovative brands and designers. Design Bureau rounds up the 20 must-know products (delivered in 2 parts) showcased at this year’s Salone, the undisputed champion of furniture fairs.

B&B Italia present ALMORA by Doshi Levien

“A haven from the world, a place for contemplation and reading from where one can admire magnificent snow-capped peaks. As protective as a second skin, enveloping like a soft blanket” the ALMORA announces the partnership between B&B Italia and London-based firm Doshi Levien. No further explanation required. Want it. Need it.

Bisazza presents Emilio Pucci inspired mosaics

Fashion, art and design are merged into sophisticatedly striking wall mosaics as Bisazza looks to the master of prints, Emilio Pucci for inspiration.  Drawing on the details from Pucci’s timeless designs, Bisazza transforms the daring patterns of the past into harmonious motifs to occupy interiors of the present.

Boffi presents Salinas by Patricia Urquiola

Inspired by the crashing waves, intense colors and beach dunes along the Bay of Biscay, Patricia Urquiloa created Salinas- a non-traditional, fully functional kitchen created with carefully selected eco-sustainable materials- for Boffi. A brand synonymous with innovation and excellence in kitchens and bathrooms, Salinas elegantly articulates the Boffi name.

Bulthaup presents  Solitaires

Bultaup, acknowledging a growing need for choice and customization, presented solitaires to offer freedom, functionality and individuality in the kitchen. Focused on creating a space for activity and communication, solitaries can be utilized from all sides allowing for multiple users at once. Users can choose from a variety of elements in a range of sizes. Everyone can get their hands dirty- in the chicest of ways!

Cappellini presents Lochness by Piero Lissoni

Craftsmanship confronts technology in Piero Lissoni’s Lochness for Cappellini. A cupboard to occupy the living room, Lochness is unique in its thinness. The attenuated profile affords Lochness a sleek, graphic profile to add a level of polished irregularity to the interior. Available in natural oak, oak stained wenge, santos, polished lacquered or (Design Bureau preferred) extra polish lacquered.

Carl Hansen & Son presents Paul Smith & Maharam in honor of Hans J. Wegner

Paul Smith & Maharam collaborated with Carl Hansen & Son to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Danish designer Hans J. Wegner. Smith selected his favorite Wegner pieces, including the iconic Wishbone chair, for a capsule collection in partnership with Maharam. Vibrant striped textiles in bold colors and dramatic proportions salute the late Modernist pioneer a very beautiful birthday.

Cassina presents M10 by Patrick Norguet

Designed by Patrick Norguet, the M10 chair for Cassina is an oxymoron of design- a complex construction that yields a simple silhouette. Suspended on an upside down Y-shape, the thin wooden legs of M10 find stability with an interior metal body. The stable core is concealed by beautiful leather upholstery that welcomes sitters to experience its delicate strength.

DADA presents Banco

Originally designed in 1994, Banco by DADA  has an updated look and location in 2014 as it makes its way into the center of the kitchen and mastering monochromatic design. Total white and total black cabinetry hangs below the worktop and suspends off the floor as Banco proves it is possible to redesign the different functions of the kitchen by combining the upward and outward projecting features.

DEDON presents AHNDA by Stephen Burks

Described as a ‘transparent upholstery’ of woven textile cords, AHNDA by Stephen Burks highlights DEDON’s master weavers and the beauty of the handcrafted. A luxurious lounge chair for the outdoors, DEDON extended the AHNDA collection to accessories in a mix of materials, colors and textures to compliment the boldly diaphanous lounger.
