Named after design eccentric William Kent's architectural contribution to London's famed Picadilly Street mansions, The Langham, Chicago's resplendent Devonshire Ballroom was a perfect fit for hosting the American Society of Interior Designers - Illinois Chapter's (ASID-IL) 2014 Celebration of Design Gala.

This year's gala, which treated "nearly 200 distinguished design industry professionals and enthusiasts," to salvers of cocktails, dinner, and desserts, was perhaps most enthusiastically noted for presenting the 11th annual Design Excellence Awards. Emceed by distinguished ASID member, Hunter Kaiser, the ceremony commenced with a slideshow, showcasing "the breadth and depth of significant, successful work accomplished by the Illinois chapter and[...] the assemblage of top designers who continue to champion the chapter’s mission of design excellence."

In addition to awarding this year's creative titans on the competition's familiar terms, the ASID-IL aimed to tune up their radar for talent and excellence by gifting honorees with four brand new award categories, including “Outdoor Space – Contract,” “Outdoor Space – Residential," “Singular Space – Residential,” as well as an “Industry Partner” award, highlighting the integrity in designing and developing new products for market consumption.

In the spirit of Kent's Devonshire House that accommodated the revelries of wealthy British noblemen, the riverside opulence of the Devonshire Ballroom succeeded in welcoming and rewarding Illinois' share of the future and modern-day Kents of the world.
