House of Cedar

If this cedar frame house by Japan's Suga Atelier looks simple, it isn't, really. The firm (which is named for a popular type of Japanese Cypress) developed a new technique that combines classic woodframe construction with the strength of modern steel bolts. It reminds me a bit of playground construction. The numerous beams, some have said, are reminders of Japanese barns—to which I say, I know nothing about Japanese barns, but I like the sturdy look.
