Jamie’s Italian in Westfield, Stratford City

If we read it right, Jamie's Italian from the boyish Brit chef wonder Jamie Oliver, is quite large—almost 7000 square feet of new build. Blacksheep's design makes use of welcoming and handsome natural materials (oak, slate and porcelain) to subdue the vast space—encouraging us to pop in for a bit with optimistic Tolix-style steel French cafe chairs. On the ground and upper floor, black mountain natural slate tiles and black and white glazed tile, as well as reclaimed off-white tile are integrated with reclaimed oak timber and distressed timber in the back room. But the space is also open, encouraging a bit of theater—people-watching you might say. The cook line is open, too, making the kitchen work part of a vibrant experience. The bespoke chandelier features long-life LED bulbs, so they won't need much replacing. The exterior is Cedar timber. It doesn't scream Italian, or even whisper it and we like that.
