MINI Goes Dutch in Milan

Right now at the Salone del Mobile 2012, Milan, MINI is showing COLOUR ONE for MINI, a concept car design project from Dutch design duo Scholten & Baijings. The Dutch duo looks at the design of a MINI One from the ground up. The designers took a highly conceptual approach, stripped down the base model car layer by layer, looked at the components as individual units and imagined them as "Art Parts." Their recreated MINI features different materials. They had transparent tires cast from resin with help from Vincent de Rijk and redid the seats and seatbelts with special fabrics and integrated hanging bags into the frame. The Milan exhibit includes color and material samples, inspiring objects, images and snapshots from the creative process behind the installation.

Stefan Scholten says of the project, "Being able to apply our thinking to such a ubiquitous product as the car is a fantastic opportunity for our work. The questions we asked ourselves and the solutions we worked out were an eye-opener for everyone involved."

COLOUR ONE for MINI by Scholten & Baijings runs until 28 April 2012 as part of the INTERNI Legacy exhibition at the University of Milan.
