Luxury hotels often serve world-class food, but did you know that New York City’s iconic Plaza Hotel boasts its own impressive food hall? Designed by Jeffrey Beers, anchored by renowned chef Todd English, and opened in 2010, the hall has gone over so well with gourmands that The Plaza has recently expanded its space.
The addition takes its cue from both Belle Epoque Parisian department stores and Harrods' London food hall. Beers was particularly inspired by the design elements deeply rooted in Paris' traditional shopping streets. His design includes a stone mosaic sidewalks, hand-blown glass sconces, and even a green wall, seamlessly blending unique vendors into a cohesive retail market. “It has been thrilling to realize our vision for this exquisite area that recreates a decorative, lively European arcade, with each jewel of a shop taking its place as part of a stunning interior streetscape,” Beers says.
The expanded hall now spreads over 6,000 square feet and features local Big Apple favorites big and small alike, making it the perfect spot to shop for specialty foods in a special space.

November 16, 2012This very gorgeous space, designed by our client Jeffrey Beers, is featured in Design Bureau – it’s worth walking downstairs if you’re in the neighborhood of The Plaza. Really fun.
