The emergent category of boutique hotels often meant a sleek modern look. But these days, historic and turn of the century have their own strong, youthful sex appeal. Conder the new NoMad Hotel, opened April 1st in a turn-of-the-century Beaux-Arts building in the NoMad district at 28th Street and Broadway, New York. The lifestyle hotel, from the Sydell Group, was recently fully restored to an approximation of its original luxurious state. French designer Jacques Garcia gave the 168 rooms and suites a residential feel, each with hand-selected custom furnishings and original artwork. The hotel features a soaring center atrium, library, cocktail bar, dining room, and rooftop space. The designers sourced a 200 year-old spiral staircase from France and floors from an old Atlanta factory. Chef Daniel Humm and restauranteur Will Guidara are behind the dining and Paris-based Maison Kitsune will do its first U.S. shop in the space. There will also be a sundries shop and a shop from Canadian brand WANT Les Essentiaels De Vie. Don't worry about coming up with a reason to go to NYC this spring, nomads like us don't need one, right? Rates start at $395. thenomadhotel.com
