Remixing the Veronese Vessel

Friday, December 16th, 2011

You've seen it, but chances are you wouldn't know what to call it. Neither did anyone else for a few hundred years, before Giacomo Cappellin and Paolo Venini named the classic vase shape the "Veronese" in 1921.

Created in the 16 century by Renaissance glassblowers, the same basic form has not only survived the test of time, but has remained virtually unchanged...until now!

Cleto Munari invited ten international architects and artists to tweak the vase as they saw fit. Those invited include: Mario Botta, Massimiliano Fuksas, Richard Meier, Alessandro Mendini, David Palterer, Paolo Portoghesi, Borek Sipek, Matteo Thun, Carlo Nason, Mimmo Paladino, and Cleto Munari.

The collection of eleven vases are hand blown on Murano in a limited edition of 49 pieces. They are available from Cleto Munari in Italy (www.cletomunari.com) and the GD Cucine Showroom in New York.
