Royal Artillery Barracks

When it comes to temporary structures, tents are where it's at these days. In the case of the venue at the Royal Artillery Barracks, Magma Architecture's mobile buildings are certainly a contrast to their nearby historic surroundings. These three "mobile buildings" are hosting the 10, 25 and 50 m shooting competitions at the currently underway 2012 London Olympics and Paraolympics. The façades of the structures are done in a crisp, white double curved membrane studded with vibrantly colored openings which operate as tensioning nodes. The phthalate-free pvc membrane doesn't flap in the wind as a result of the design. And those openings also act as air intakes and doorways at ground level. All this does a bit to make shooting a more interesting sport as the actual action happens too quickly for mortals in the venue to see with the naked eye.
