Erin McCord says:

I’ve been surfing the Internet looking at illustrators – finding new artist & stumbling onto inspiration in spades! The whole concept of this class is something dreamy! The umbrella designed & created by Leen Sadder is AMAZING!! I truly wish it were available for purchasing! I would proudly display this work of art in my apartment & not worry about having an umbrella open indoors! The piece & concept are conversation starters & would make me smile everytime I saw it! Thanks for sharing with another artist in a small city in Texas who thrist daily for art & inspiration!

Renowned graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister teaches a class at the School of Visual Arts in New York City called “Can Design Touch Someone’s Heart?” One of his graduate students, Leen Sadder, "dressed up as Mary Poppins and escorted people across the street carrying a hand-lettered umbrella and a bag of chocolate-dipped spoons."

The class aims to explore how design can achieve the same emotional effects spurred by film, music, and literature. Sadder's Poppins project takes a well-known fictional, cultural touchstone — and a song that seems to stick in your mind without fail — and translates it to a real-life encounter. It's walking nostalgia with a dash of expert hand-lettering and packaging. In this case, yes, design can touch your heart...and your sweet tooth...and your funny bone.
