Taking the High Road
Tuesday, January 31st, 2012
This summer, if you happen to be in Austria and there aren't any freak snowstorms in the forecast, then drive up and down The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road for the ultimate nature-meets-design experience.
The route winds through some of the biggest, baddest Alps, is dotted with “architectural sculptures” by architect Werner Tscholl, and even features the new cliffside Pass Museum, Tscholl's tribute to the awe-inspiring "rocks and boulders around the Timmelsjoch." Stop there to learn all about the road's long history, and then continue on to four other ultra-contemporary sculptures, all teetering on the berm to maximize the impact of the incredible alpine views.
We're thinking roadtrip. Definitely.
