By Gem Barton
Now in its second year, the Design Junction features 100 world-class designers set against the industrial surrounds of the 120,000 sq ft 1960’s Sorting Office on London's Oxford Street. The impressive space will be devoted to leading international brands, smaller cutting-edge labels, design shops, large-scale installations, temporary restaurants, bars and cafes, working flash factories, and live entertainment. This week, we're meeting some of the smaller design studios (under ten staff members) showing their wares.
Bethan Gray, London, England
Who they are: "Bethan Gray works in collaboration with major retailers and manufacturers producing commercial design collaborations."
What they're showing: Showcasing products from the G&T collection including the launch of Brogue as well as Carve
Dare Studio, Brighton, UK
Who they are: "To design and make furniture that exemplifies the beauty of materials and the skills of the finest craftsmen. Our pieces are all-handmade to order to ensure our ongoing commitment to quality."
What they're showing: Betty Chair, Bronte Sofa and Chair, Ernest Sofa Chair and Bench, Maya Desk, Monarch Tables, Prudence Nest, Strand, Zephyr
Young & Norgate, Devon, England
Who they are: "We make, not manufacture, crafting each piece of furniture by hand using time-honored techniques from our workshop on the south coast of Devon. Whilst aesthetics are hugely important to us, we endeavor to deliver quality and longevity in our products. Good design should stand the test of time."
What they're showing: Showcasing most recent work at Design Junction - the Prop Stool and Veer Dining Table.
