The Journey of Sebastian Errazuriz

By John Dugan
It has been said that the visual language of artist Sebastian Errazuriz is particularly graphic. It rides a fine line between art and design, plays with pop culture, nature, and jokes about death—all reasons that design fanatics love him. Calvin Klein, for instance, says he digs that Errazuriz is making sculpture from furniture, or is it the other way around?
The Journey of Sebastian Errazuriz, which launched at London Design Week with a gallery show of the artist's "Boat Coffin"—plus models, drawings blueprints, etc., shows his tongue-in-cheek, cleverly avant-garde work in all its glory. The book is punctuated by conversations between the New York-based Chilean artist and artist Tom Sachs, MoMA curators and more. The New York book launch is Tuesday, October 2 at Cristina Grajales Gallery. RSVP required.
