It's no secret that these days even established brands are finding that the right presence in a built environment can work wonders. Outdoor brand with street appeal Timberland is a case in point. This week, it launches a new Michigan Avenue store (625 N Michigan Avenue) to make that all important statement in one of America's premier shopping districts. The 3,500 square footstore boasts a carefully thought build-out and design featuring recycled materials—including FSC-certified reclaimed wood in the floors and ceiling. Former industrial machinery is used for table bases and the walls are painted with low (VOC) paints. LED lighting is simply a given these days. Designwise, it rides the line between rustic and contemporary—there is such a thing as too much barn wood, you know.
