Two Splendid Sprouts

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

We know what you're thinking: Nothing says "playtime" like a sinister chrome fetus with macrocephaly. Lucky for you, the new release from Hong Kong-based toy designers Mark Landwehr and Sven Waschk, a.k.a. Coarse, puts a shiny spin on two "embryos" named Oop and Awl.

The set, entitled Two Splendid Sprouts, should look familiar to Coarse fans, with its deep, carved lines and smooth finish. Each seedling is forged from vinyl, covered in chrome plating, and stands approximately seven inches tall. As usual, the packaging is a sight to behold in itself. The box is stamped with silver foil and features with ventilation ducts (presumably for a potential Child's Play-like scenario).

In a previous interview with Toys by Design writer Jeremy Brautman, Landwehr said that "the manufacturing process needs between 6 -10 months," which means these little tykes took just as long as a real baby to come to fruition. And just like a real baby, you can buy these for roughly 255 USD.

Coarse will be releasing just 250 pieces on its website on October 11.
