My knowledge of Otago, New Zealand is pretty limited—I know that Dunedin has an unusually good music scene for its size. But one look at the Wanaka House (by Crosson, Clark, Carnachan)  makes me think it is a good place to get some privacy going and become one with the landscape. The award-winning house was designed to be low slung and unobtrusive, provide great views ( I mean, look at those mountains) but also privacy. Steel sections in the handsome gabion wall allow light shafts to enter the east side of the house. The entry point to the home is positioned near a separate timber garage making arrival as quiet as the place itself.
