Roy McMakin’s Domestic Designs
Tuesday, April 26th, 2011
Roy McMakin has gained attention in galleries from NYC to LA with his simple yet elegant furniture pieces. Meanwhile, under his direction, his Seattle-based firm, Domestic Architecture, has been busy at work building a new generation of American abodes with an approach that is both new and familiar.
The firm's clever use of rear-guard materials, such as painted wood, can really make a space pop when placed in a domestic context. Details throughout his projects imply an intentionally casual lifestyle filled with artful pleasures.
Pictured here is the 37th Avenue Residence, a 6,500-square-foot home in the Washington Park neighborhood of Seattle, which effortlessly blends traditional styling with contemporary details. Other projects to check out include Cupcake Royale in Seattle and a remodel of the "oldest house in Beverly Hills." We want to live there too. www.DomesticArchitecture.com
