All Dala Long

Among the emerging highlights of Milan's Salone del Mobile this year was DALA, a seating system for DEDON by American Stephen Burks that takes inspiration from seating in the developing world, basket makers in Senegal specifically. DEDON has the pieces woven in Sebu, Philippines and Burks traveled there to work directly with the artisans on the design. DALA features a frame of powder-coated extruded aluminum mesh, woven with strands of a new eco fiber created from recycled food-and-drink packaging (75% recycled tetrapak) mixed with recyclable polyethylene. It sounds high tech, and is, but the look is more globally casual, fit for the rooftop deck of you and your urban nomad buddies, or the beach even. There's a lounge chair, an ottoman and a stool that doubles as side table as well as a regular side table—all are light and easy to move around. Color ways are sea, fire and grass. With warmer weather approaching (quickly, we hope), we'll be daydreaming of lounging all DALA long.
