Chicago Design Museum Opens

It's open. The Chicago Design Museum opened this month in a 6,000 sq. foot space in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood. The museum will host limited engagement exhibitions focused on design excellence. For June, the museum has scheduled a full range of design exhibits and events.

Exhibitions include Debbie Millman: Look Both Ways (illustrated essays from the design vet and writer)Ed Fella: More Into Less (flyers and posters from the artist and graphic designer),  IBM100: Icons of Progress (100 iconic moments in the company's evolution),  Fresh Produced: Exploring the Craft of Hand-Painted Signage (celebrating hand painted grocery store signs), and Rodchenko 120 (the influence of Russian avant-garde on the world of art and design).

Debbie Millman, President of Design at Sterling Brands and President Emeritus of the AIGA. Debbie has worked in the design business for over 25 years. She is currently President of the design division at Sterling Brands, and has been there for 17 years. Within that time, she has worked on the redesign of over 200 global brands.

Debbie is President Emeritus of the AIGA, the largest professional association for design. She is a contributing editor at Print Magazine, a design writer at and Chair of the Masters in Branding Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In 2005, she began hosting the first weekly radio talk show about design on the Internet—“Design Matters with Debbie Millman”—now featured on In 2011, the show was awarded a Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award. Debbie is the author of five books on design including “Brand Thinking and Other Noble Pursuits,” (Allworth Press, 2011), “Look Both Ways: Illustrated Essays on the Intersection of Life and Design,” (HOW Books, 2009) and “How To Think Like A Great Graphic Designer” (Allworth Press, 2007).
