Event | Marimekko Design By Hand Series

Friday, November 1st, 2013

Attention New Yorkers with a hunger for some inspiration and design experience! We've found just the thing. The Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum is working to foster the creativity of future designers by hosting a bi-annual series of educational conversations and workshops that will focus on the craftsmanship, innovations, and merits of contemporary global designers. Iconic Finnish brand Marimekko is kicking off the program, which is set to run through 2017, with Heath Ceramics joining the series in spring 2014, and jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels coming onboard next fall.

The Marimekko workshops, titled Design By Hand, will begin Tuesday, November 5 at 4:30 p.m. with a teen print class. An adult hands-on session with a focus on design storytelling will follow on November 6, as well as a university-level workshop on dressing up people an objects that same day. A public lecture on the spirit of Marimekko design is scheduled for November 7, and family workshops on color, patterns, and shapes is set for Saturday, November 9. For additional details and the full schedule, head here

All programs require advanced registration. You can register here or call (212)-849-8353 for additional information.
