Marni’s 100 Chairs

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Perhaps due to its social component, Italian fashion label Marni's 100 Chairs venture made a splash at Salone del Mobile 2012. The collection, just 100 chairs in number, was made in Colombia by ex-prisoners. The venture is an effort to aid resettlement of prisoners in the country's working life. The chair design itself is a typical Colombian metal frame and PVC thread—but done in designer Marni colors. The funds raised from the sale of the chairs will be donated to the institute ICAM of Milan—which benefits children of imprisoned mothers. While the first batch of 100 has sold-out, Marni tells us they'll do a new collection for Art Basel.
