Tools of Rock

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Photographer Pat Graham was a key figure in documenting the D.C. punk scene in the '90s—I know, I saw him everywhere, on stage, in the corner, shooting. Later, he toured with Modest Mouse and eventually, he ended up in London where he now shoots for the likes of Umbro soccer gear, the Ray Ban Raw Sounds campaign, and the Tottenham Hotspur football club.  Late in 2011, he published Instrument, an impressive work not just of rock photography, but of documentary and music journalism. Anyone who hangs around the rock game long enough knows that a rocker's gear is more than just a romantic totem of style and a noisemaker, it's an extension of the body. Graham treats the gear with appropriate respect. Was the book slept on a wee bit? I think so, but I could be wrong. In any case, here's some of the best from Instrument to send you on your way today.
