Xylophones & Cellphones

Hark! What maketh those dulcet tones which echo through the wooded glen? It's none other than a small ball cascading down a xylophone track in Docomo's new ad for its wood-encased cellphone, Touch Wood SH-08C.

The song tapped out during the three-minute commercial is Bach’s Cantata 147, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.” The ad is the work of Japanese design firm Drill Inc. Drill brought Kenjiro Matsuo of Invisible Designs Lab to fabricate the instrument in a forest near Kyushu, Japan.

Just yesterday, in our interview with Shwood, we mentioned that natural materials were coming back in a big way in the world of accessories. You'll have to wait for this one stateside though, as the limited-edition phone is on sale now in Japan only.
